Adidas’s 3D printed technology was one of the biggest innovations in the latter half of the 2010s. They’re starting off the 2020s with a new 4D Run 1.0 which combines top-tier technology with a vibrant “Signal Coral” launch colorway, they are the next step in the brand’s 3D printed efforts. Created with a speedy athletic mesh, the shoe’s upper features a sleek shape that is reminiscent of other high-end footwear. The accents are applied in an intentionally blotchy fashion that is between an abstract nod to animal print and airbrush graphics. Fused overlays appear on the heel and toebox, while a white heel clip and collar add airy contrast.
Branding is provided by a smooth three-stripe graphic on the midfoot and a small logo on the heel. Below this upper sits a full-foot 4D midsole dressed in a signature “Aero Green” shade. The midsole is lightweight and supportive, and the outsole is an icy orange, finalizing the design. The Adidas 4F Run 1.0 is available on the Adidas website for $250. I look forward to seeing what Adidas will bring to the 3D printed footwear world for the next decade.
