Adidas has given a preview about the latest version of its 3D printed shoe, the Alphaedge 4D. The first one was released back in 2018 and was made in collaboration with Carbon. Carbon uses continuous liquid interface production (CLIP) which is a digital light synthesis process. Adidas has been looking at the potential 3D printing has with footwear manufacturing. Two years ago, they released the Y-3 which features a 3D printed midsole. Recently they introduced the Y-3 Runner 3D II adding to the Futurecraft 4D series. Because of all the success, Adidas was inspired to release an updated version of the Alphaedge 4D. They are being released in two colors; core black carbon and white carbon.
The shoes will feature an upper made with Adidas’ Primeknit technology. This will help them be breathable and lightweight, adding to comfort. The midsole will be 3D printed in a mint green color. With a price of $300, the 3D printed shoes will be released on May 31st. Product manufacturers are using 3D printing for mass manufacturing. Other companies like Reebok and Nike have also looked into 3D printing to create their footwear. With the ability to create innovative and fully-customized products it’s no mystery while 3D printing is being integrated into the footwear industry.
