EOS North America and Additive Minds announced the launch of their Digital Foam program. The Digital Foam hub is coordinated by EOS and pulls together CAD software, flexible polymer materials, 3D printing technology, and the engineering team at Additive Minds. As more materials like TPU and PEBA become more available things like football helmets, bike seats, running shoes, and customized orthotics are more viable. That latter application is what footwear company Aetrex is aiming for through the use of Digital Foam. By using the program’s services and combining with its scanning system, Aetrex is analyzing consumers’ feet, identifying pressure points, and additively manufacturing custom orthotics.
The use of 3D printing for components like that allows designers to enhance the comfort, fit, and performance of products. Because EOS North America and Additive Minds have recognized how complex it can be, they offer a helping hand if needed. Software company nTopology has partnered with Digital Foam by contributing its nTop software platform to help users simplify engineering design, analysis, and build preparation. EOS and its partner will be utilizing the Digital Foam program to submit an entry to the NFL Helmet Challenge, and the winner will be announced May of 2021.
