Fizik has unveiled a new Vento Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave shoe with a net-like upper which is made from nylon fibred and thermoplastic polymer filaments. The shoe combines both breathability with a high level of resilience. Although there are other shoes with a woven upper, the Aeroweave looks very open. Professionals demand shoes that have less weight but an increase in ventilation, while still maintaining a great fit, and that’s what Fizik aims to do. Aeroweave is an advanced fabric that interlaces lightweight nylon fibred with filaments of thermoplastic polymer. The upper of the shoe is so vented that the consumer’s socks are visible through it and the material is malleable. The structure of the shoe is so strong that is delivers the support and containment required for a racing shoe.
The Vento Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave uses Fizik’s R2 carbon fiber outsole that is made to be lightweight and stiff. The cleats are positioned slightly further back to optimize pedaling efficiency and reduce knee compression. The Powerstrap closer comprises two Velcro straps with the instep and midfoot separately adjustable. The Vento Powerstrap R2 Aeroweave shoes will come in black only and are already on Fizik’s website, but you cannot purchase them until December 5th. These shoes are an incredible innovation and I would love to see something like this applied with 3D printing someday.
