Beginning May 26th, guests can visit The Bata Shoe Museum’s newest, one-of-a-kind exhibition, FUTURE NOW: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting-Edge Kicks, featuring a collection of futuristic footwear designs in Toronto. Alongside the exhibition’s opening is the release of The Bata Shoe Museum’s accompanying book, also titled FUTURE NOW. The book features numerous interviews with innovative creatives and designers including Salehe Bembury, Steven Vasilev and Chris Le from RTFKT, Steven Smith, Jeff Staple, and Zixiong Wei from SCRY. From publisher Rizzoli Electa, the book will be available worldwide June 21st.
This exciting new collection includes 50 designs from the museum’s holdings, collectors, designers, and inventors including Marina, the thigh-high boots meant for wear in virtual reality, RTFKT x Staple Mega-Pigeon, the Nike Dunk SB Low Staple NYC Pigeon designed by Jeff Staple available as both an NFT and physical sneakers, and the 3D printed SCRY boots 3-D designed for sci-fi aesthetic footwear.
