My caring cousin Arvind has Down syndrome, and although he loves to be independent, tying his own shoes has always been a major hurdle. Last year, he was invited to a wedding, which meant we needed to purchase dress shoes that he could independently wear.
I offered to help as best I could, but even locating stylish dress shoes that he could wear independently was virtually impossible.
There had to be a better way!
Being an active volunteer for the United Nations has taught me urgent action is needed to combat climate change and that the animal leather industry is one of the leading contributors to global warming and pollution.
I wanted Arvind’s dress shoes to be vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly.
After months of research, I decided to develop a custom-made vegan dress shoe for Arvind that is lightweight and also features a recycled rubber sole and Velcro® as a substitute for shoelaces. Thus, eliminating the most frustrating part of putting on shoes for Arvind.
