Footwear company Superfeet has joined others by using 3D printing technology to help fight against the coronavirus outbreak. Superfeet and Flowbuilt manufacturing announced they would begin using their HP Multijet Fusion printers to help produce medical equipment and supplies. Superfeet said it had successfully mobilized its product development and operations department to produce 30,000 PPE masks at 3D printing facilities. The company wants to distribute them to medical organizations in the Pacific Northwest. They started conversations with local hospitals and discovered a massive need for PPE and wanted to help combat the pandemic. Flowbuilt Manufacturing is the only U.S.-based full-service manufacturing facility and made its name offering mass-customized footwear and insoles.
According to Superfeet, Flowbuilt’s facility features cutting-edge 3D printers and machinery that can switch between producing a single pair of custom shoes to manufacturing thousands of the same product. A Washington-based aerospace furnishing company, Pioneer Aerofab, has joined onto the project to help with the production of the masks’ hooded component.
