Can you hear that, the call of summer? I don’t know about you, but those faint whispers sound a lot like “it’s slide season,” and I’m obliged to agree. As our toes slip out of our shoes and into something airier, adidas‘ is gearing up for its wildest selection of slides ever. Say hello, to the Adilette 22.
Honestly, if you were to tell me you’ve never owned a pair of Three Stripes flagship slides, the Adilette, I’d assume you were lying. These things are everywhere, summer or not, especially during the early 2010s. On my first boy’s holiday, all seven of us had a pair, black or navy, and plenty of other Brits came prepared with the same.
Sure, the slides certainly had a moment during the peak of Tumblr as fashion bloggers switched out their Stan Smiths for a pair of Adilettes, but they’ve not completely faded into obscurity.
adi’s next slide offering is a far cry from the understated look of the classic style, taking on a heavily layered aesthetic I can only assume that seismologists dream of.
The drastic reimaging sees the open-toed footwear take on a heavily textured aesthetic, almost as if they’ve been 3D-printed.
Perhaps the most distinctive characteristic of the Adilette has always been its midfoot Three Stripe branding, which has been stripped from these new pairs aside from some integrated shapes. Instead, plastering “THE BRAND WITH THREE STRIPES” text across the midsole.
Following a first-hand look at two green and a yellow-like beige (similar to YEEZY’s “Sulphur” colorway) colorways, an additional three has surfaced, alongside details that all pairs are made with recycled materials.
You’ll get your chance to secure a pair of the new adidas Adilette 22 slides via adidas’ website with a general release on June 23, for a retail price of £45 ($55).
Keep an eye on adidas’ CONFIRMED app, though, as a first round of adidas Adilette 22 colorways shock-dropped on June 1, selling out instantly.
