The Mostro’s spiked sole unit has been given a bold update, taking center stage on the sneaker’s upper. A sleek material with delicate perforations that resembles silver chainmail has replaced the strap closure.
The entire shoe has a futuristic appearance, giving the impression that it has been created using advanced technology. However, there is currently no information available regarding the specific technique used to produce the unique hole-covered material of the sneaker.
Speaking to WWD about the event on February 8, Heiko Desens, creative director of Puma, expressed excitement about the future. He mentioned that they will be revealing some Mostro design concepts during the event, which will contribute to building the sneaker archive of tomorrow.
This Mostro reveal is a clear reflection of one of those design concepts and it has certainly lived up to Desens’ promise. The PUMA Mostro has always had a futuristic vibe, but this latest version truly pushes the boundaries. It appears to be from another dimension.
It remains to be seen whether this silver Mostro is a concept created for PUMA’s event in New York or an upcoming product that will be available for purchase. However, I have a strong feeling that it’s the latter.
The return of the Mostro is currently in full swing since the shoe was revived in its original colorways on January 13, and this iteration joins a variety of other models that have recently been teased.
For instance, there’s a pair that comes in a vibrant pink color and is a highly anticipated collaboration with the Korean label San San Gear, which we are eagerly awaiting more details about.
The unreleased shoes have been generating a lot of buzz lately, especially with celebrities like Skepta and A$AP Rocky rocking the Mostro. Their support has only added to the growing anticipation surrounding the shoe.
PUMA has been experiencing great success in bringing back beloved classics from its rich heritage, like the iconic Mostro. This new Mostro sets itself apart by embracing a fresh perspective on PUMA’s Y2K era and boldly embracing the future of sneaker design.
