In previous articles, I have mentioned Adidas’ Futurecraft 4D but we have never heard anything regarding an actual release. The sneakers will feature a Primeknit upper but a 3D printing sole. They have been coveted by sneakerheads, but have remained untouchable. Turns out, however, that Adidas will be dropping the Futurecraft 4D at three stores in the United States, Just like the version that came out during 2017, these shoes feature a black and mint green color combo that puts emphasis on their sole. These 3D printed shoes are just a teaser of what could be a different way to buy sneakers in the future. The Futurecraft 4D is made with a one-size-fits-all sole like any other shoe.
Adidas plans to use 3D printing technology to mold each sole specifically to each customer, ensuring an optimal fit and reducing waste. Last year Adidas opened its new Speedfactory near Atlanta, Georgia. The Speedfactory created around 160 jobs for unskilled workers but also includes robots capable of turning out sneakers at a record clip. Currently, it takes several weeks from design to completed sneaker. This is just more proof why 3DShoes.com is looking in the right direction. Once Adidas gets the time down to days or a few hours for custom-fit shoes, things will really start to pick up.
